What Is Effective Youth Engagement?

We are facing an unprecedented situation with COVID-19 where Mosques and community centres are open in a limited capacity to reduce the spread of the virus.

Islamic Network has developed this strategy to demonstrate how to effectively engage and empower young people in your community in person and online during the pandemic and beyond.

We are facing an unprecedented situation with younger people aged 16 to 24 more than twice as likely (50.8%) to have experienced loneliness than older people during the lockdowns according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

While children with good support structures have coped well, those whose parents were unable to work flexibly and have therefore been less available to help, have lost out most according to Ofsted.

As leaders, we have a responsibility to serve the needs of our community. This is the reason why schools are still open, and Mosques/community organisations are permitted to continue youth work as it is an essential service in the UK.

The question isn’t if we should be engaging youth right now, the question is, how do we engage youth in for our community?

This guide will help you to understand what effective youth engagement is and how you can start to run COVID safe activities.
